"I De$ign Therefore I Am"
Printed & Bounded Artist Book
Project Summary: This experimental publication combines Andrew Blauvelt's essay In and Around: Cultures of Design and the Design of Cultures, Part 1 with selected dialogue from Westworld Season 1 to examine design, authorship, power, and consumerism. I De$sign Therefore I Am frames the designer as a god-like figure: one who creates systems, substances, and narratives that circulate as commodities and are consumed.
Project Goals: To explore the relationship between design authorship and consumer culture by juxtaposing design theory with speculative fiction, examining how designers function as creators of both meaning and desire within systems of consumption.
Results: The final publication functions as an artist book that critiques graphic design's role in shaping consumer culture. By layering theory and narrative, the project positions designers as creators of meaning in the systems of consumption they help produce, inviting readers to reflect on the ethical and cultural implications of designed desire.
